Charm the Heart

Charming little guy, isn't he? He's 3x3" and can be framed or used as a magnet just like the other 'Little Squares". They will be featured at my upcoming holiday show "Charm the Heart".
"Charm the Heart" is back for another year of fine art and crafts suitable for holiday gifts. Come join us on the 23rd and 24th for shopping, fun and snacks!

Little Squares

I'm doing a series of small - 3x3" square paintings on ampersand clay board. I plan to add a magnetic strip  on the back so these can be used
as refrigerator magnets or in work cubicles.

House in the Trees

This is a 4x6" painting - semi-abstract in nature - the scene just develoiped on its own.

Laura's Barn

This is the view of Laura's barn at the Spicy Lamb Farm as seen from the road. The painting is 8 x 10" on canvas board.

Cape Hatteras Light

Hatteras Light 9 x 12"

I'm painting for the next show at the MD Garage and the theme is "American Glory" ...famous American landmarks and places of interest.
I thought, 'where would I like to be' and the first answer was The Beach! And what better beach to visit than one at the Outer Banks?
I knew I wanted a muted palette of 'beachy' tones and the sense of hazy, early morning light. This is my result. Price on Request.

Plein Air

This is as urban as it gets in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. I'm sitting on Bolanz Rd, near Riverview Rd in front of Hunt Farm. Everyone is parked to visit Szalay's Sweet Corn Farm Market and quite a few people stop to chat and watch me paint. I like this! I meet the nicest people.

As you sit on the side the side of the road its obvious that there's a slight crest to the road. I especially like the juxtaposition of the ancient barn with all the poles and wires and signs. Clouds are moving back in and I paint a little faster. The painting is just 8x10" and I'm happy with the way it turned out.

En Plein Aire Peninsula

The 5th Annual Plein Air Competition opened  June 7th and I headed straight to The Spicy Lamb Farm to set up. There are so many wonderful sites to paint  there. Laura DeYoung is the owner and welcomes artists to her farm.

There is a beautiful view from the area where the sheep dog trials are held. I made use of some convenient tables and chairs and set up with an audience of some near by horses.

It was overcast and cool when I started but the clouds parted enough to offer some sunshine and blue skies.

This is the finished piece, 12x16"  "The Pasture".

Interview on WKSU

WKSU Radio is doing feature stories on the arts in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. I. along with fellow artist Nicki Lanzi were asked if we would do an interview with Vivian Goodman while we painted plein air near the Cuyahoga River. Of course we would!
This is also the 100th anniversary of the great flood of the Cuyahoga and Park Ranger  Karen Kopcek was also interviewed:

We had a beautiful day and I got started right away:
It was very breezy and the river was loud... so loud that we had to re-do parts of the interview.
The interview I did with WKSU radio will be aired tomorrow, May 16th. We received an email from Vivian Goodman saying it will  air once during the noon hour and then again at either 4:50, 5:50 or 6:20.
It will also be on the website, wksu.org, first thing Thursday morning.

This is the finished painting from that morning:

It is currently entered in an exhibit at the Peninsula Art Academy called Ebb and Flow of the Cuyahoga. The opening reception is Saturday from 5-7 pm.
If you would like to come paint the Cuyahoga there is an open competition next month.... details are here.

Golf

The Old Clubs

So, the weather is finally  nice enough to get out and hit a few. No need to get into scores and all that! But it is so nice to be outside, enjoying the fresh warm air while chasing that little white  ball around.  This is a collage I did during the winter. I wanted to achieve that look of an old canvas golf bag and a wooden driver. I'm pleased with the result. This piece is on canvas,
 12 x 24  price on request.

Duck Dynasty

Duck Dynasty  8x10
The lovely little family is currently on exhibit at the MD Garage in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This show focuses on Nature in the park - specifically Nature in a Zoom Lens.

The Butterfly and the Frog 11x14
The critters in this painting are a little harder to find... the butterfly and the frog are both hiding in the berries. Can you find them?

Sweet Little Dog

Meet Beaker... a very small Havanese. I painted him as a commission for his owner and she said I caught his personality.
The American Kennel Club says that the Havanese is a small sturdy dog of immense charm. Beaker certainly fits the description!

Her photo is of the reflection in the window of a store on Main Street in Akron.
