Cape Hatteras Light

Hatteras Light 9 x 12"

I'm painting for the next show at the MD Garage and the theme is "American Glory" ...famous American landmarks and places of interest.
I thought, 'where would I like to be' and the first answer was The Beach! And what better beach to visit than one at the Outer Banks?
I knew I wanted a muted palette of 'beachy' tones and the sense of hazy, early morning light. This is my result. Price on Request.

Plein Air

This is as urban as it gets in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. I'm sitting on Bolanz Rd, near Riverview Rd in front of Hunt Farm. Everyone is parked to visit Szalay's Sweet Corn Farm Market and quite a few people stop to chat and watch me paint. I like this! I meet the nicest people.

As you sit on the side the side of the road its obvious that there's a slight crest to the road. I especially like the juxtaposition of the ancient barn with all the poles and wires and signs. Clouds are moving back in and I paint a little faster. The painting is just 8x10" and I'm happy with the way it turned out.

En Plein Aire Peninsula

The 5th Annual Plein Air Competition opened  June 7th and I headed straight to The Spicy Lamb Farm to set up. There are so many wonderful sites to paint  there. Laura DeYoung is the owner and welcomes artists to her farm.

There is a beautiful view from the area where the sheep dog trials are held. I made use of some convenient tables and chairs and set up with an audience of some near by horses.

It was overcast and cool when I started but the clouds parted enough to offer some sunshine and blue skies.

This is the finished piece, 12x16"  "The Pasture".
