Out to Pasture
This painting is part of the Holiday Show of Hudson Society of Artists that is hanging at Laurel Lake on Boston Mills Rd. I liked the idea of the old truck being put "out to pasture" and painted it to look rusty and weathered.

Night Cardinal
Even in the evening light the bright feathers of the cardinal glow. This piece is 4x6 and will be included in the Christmas Gift Shop at the Peninsula Art Academy.

Artsy Crafty
I love this idea I found on Pinterest. The only thing better than a candy cane is two candy canes...and that can only be improved upon by adding chocolate. With the help of a hot glue gun you can have a candy sleigh in no time. I sued mini Kit Kat bars for the base and then added two more mini candy bars, a bit of ribbon and a bow.
Go make some now!

Kaleidoscope 2012
I was very happy to have a piece accepted into the annual
Kaleidoscope 2012 show at Summit ArtSpace. The annual art show is presented by the Alliance for the Visual Arts in Akron (AVA), a group representing over 500 local artists from the Akron Society of Artists, Artists of Rubber City, Cuyahoga Valley Art Center and Women’s Art League.
My entry is titled "Homeland Security" - a commentary on the growing presence of monitoring devices in our everyday lives. The collage is a mixed media piece measuring 16x20".

Miniature Show in PA
There is a wonderful miniature show each year sponsored by the Chambersburg Council for the Arts in Chambersburg PA. The opening for the show was last week and I could not go but my good internet artist friend Deb Keirce ( who just happened to win Best of Show !) went and sent me this photo. My two pieces are on the wall - the first in the first row and the third in the second row.
Here are close ups:

Valley Art Center
"Quiet Evening"
This is my entry in the 41st Annual Juried Art Exhibit at the Chagrin Valley Art Center on Bell Street in Chagrin Falls. I am proud to be part of this beautiful show. There were over 300 pieces submitted and 93 were included. As always the Art Center did a fabulous job of hanging the show.

Art in the Kitchen
I love this theme and I loved the show of artwork based on the theme that is currently at the Peninsula Art Academy. The Ohio State Chapter of the National Kitchen & Bath Association are partnering with PAA to sponsor the exhibit of art for the kitchen.
Of course I was there! And of course I brought along a few paintings.
These two fruity pieces are 5x5" on ampersand board. (And very special board it is. Nationally known artist Don Getz has embarked on a year long teaching tour and in preparation for that he sold ALL his art supplies. For me the sale was like entering a cave of treasure. I'm hoping that the canvas and board I bought have a little Getz Magic on them.)
I entered this little (5x7")blast from the past. And I had to explain to my grandson just what it is:

Autumn
The evenings are cool and we've had a lot of rain lately. Signals that Autumn is here. I love the serious, adult colors of Fall and used the grays and mauve and violets in some new ACEOs. I've also painted a full size painting based on "October Light" (photo coming soon)
All three ACEOs are on ebay now:

100th Birthday
Here in Hudson we are marking the 100th Birthday of our iconic Clocktower. A party is planned by the Hudson Heritage Association and they are including an auction of original art work.
I was happy to donate a painting for the event!
I thought of all the years it has been standing on the Green, chiming the hours and welcoming folks Hudson. I decided to paint a nocturne and I called it "Night Sentry"
For more information on Hudson, the Clocktower, the party and the auction visit this link to our local paper, The Hub.

Tinkers Creek
This painting is 10 x 10 on gallery wrapped canvas. The beautiful parks that circle Cleveland are known as the Emerald Necklace and they are an inspiration for artists. In this painting I wanted to capture the sense of water moving and against the still serenity of the woods and rocks. Thalo green, hookers green, sienna, ochre and umber are the main colors used in the painting.

Coneflowers
These pretty yellow flowers bloom all thru the late summer here in Ohio. They are officially Rudbeckia aka BlackEyed Susan or Coneflowers. I like to grow them because they are pretty indestructible, make for nice arrangements and are great subjects to paint. These aceos are two my newest pieces.

Yellows
The marriage of gray and yellow makes a soft dreamy palette. There is a rewarding challenge in mixing beautiful grays and they bring out the best of yellow.
This painting is 9x12. Price on request.

Summer Garden
"Summer Garden"
Iris and Poppies on a 10x10" gallery wrapped canvas. I love the palette on this one... yellows and violets with that shock of orange/red.

The Venti
Big, Bigger, Biggest... in my Starbucks influenced world this is "The Venti".
18 x 24" on canvas its my yacht. I must admit I am having as much fun painting the clouds as I am the ship. I'll probably have my own fleet before summer is over.
Iris Garden
"Iris Garden" was painted plein air.... on my own patio in May.
Its on canvas board and is 11x14"
This work is a little different:
"Pinot and Pansy" started life as a painting of flowers in a blue basket. I later cut it out and collaged it into a new painting with a wine bottle - the green bottle is a nice compliment to the blues and purples. This piece is 8x10".

June Plein Air Competition
We had a beautiful weekend for plein air in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. On Saturday morning I settled in on a cliff overlooking the river and did this small (8x10) piece of the woods and the pretty lavender flowers. I think they are clover.
"June Wildflowers"
Then I turned to my right and went for the bigger view of the river.
The day was hot and the paint was drying fast so I switched to a palette knife and worked fast. This painting is 9x12:

Bigger Boat
I hear that no matter what size boat you have, you have your eye on a larger one. So too with Artists... here I've moved up to an 8x10" piece from the earlier ACEO. Once again the little ACEO has started a trend and inspired more paintings. This painting is on gallery wrapped canvas and will set sail next week at the Hudson Society of Artist's Clothesline Show.

Feeling Nautical
This ACEO appeared.... the clouds formed, the boat appeared and quickly sailed away. I think I'll do this in a much larger format.
And being in a beach-y mood I made a Google Chrome theme to share:

Sharing
One of the nicest things about being part of the art community is the opportunity to share artwork with other artists. Over the years I have participated in many artist swaps and trades and I thought I would share some of my friends art work with you. On this wall in my house I have a beautiful watercolor by Laurie Hess of the garden fence and right below it my new piece - a glicee print by Diane Talmage of achild playing at the beach.
The top watercolor is by Hudson artist Hilary Sheeter. The subject is a historic home in Hudson. The painting below it was done but Ann Kah. The collection of buildings is nearly abstract in design.

Miniature Show
It's that time of year again - The Miniature Show at the Seaside Art Gallery in Nags Head North Carolina is in full swing. And I'm thrilled to have three pieces in the exhibit. But the bad news is I cannot actually GO to Nags Head. If you're like me you can still see these wonderful miniatures online:

The work is listed alphabetically - scroll down to the Hs to see mine.
Here is a peak at one of them - Cape Hatteras Light on a heavily textured surface:

Best of Show
I am thrilled to report that my painting "Gathering Storm" won Best of Show at the Woman's Art League of Akron. It's a wonderful show, juried by Barbara Gilette and presented at the John Siberling Gallery in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Its a small, cozy space and the show was limited to pieces 11 x 14 or smaller, framed. My entry was 5x7".
The gallery is maintained by the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley.
We were so impressed we created this slide show of the gallery and the grounds:

Moonlight
and as I painted the moon became larger and larger till the piece was not about the lake or the person on the rock but the moon.
Its safe to say that with the end of the space program I will probably never see another man walking on the moon but its still there to inspire us.
This painting is 16 x29. The dark colors made it very hard to get a good photo. In fact I didnt get a good one but it was the best of the lot.

I just discovered the website picnik.. why didn't I know about this before?! What a fun place for editing photos. And they are shutting down. Being taken over by Google+. So if all that great software is incorporated into Google/Picassa, well I guess that's OK.
I took a photo of a tiny painting of mine.. its about 1 x 2" or so and put it in a 'reflection' frame from Picnik. Endless possibilities.
