Children

I have children on the mind these days. With four grandchildren and the news that two more are arriving this year I'm very baby-minded. This child is not anyone child but this my be my sycamore tree. The painting is 11 x 14 and I was working with the idea of painting bright sunlight and deep shade. I found I had to tone down the bright yellow sky to make the piece work.

A Winner!

My painting "Flamingos" won the award for Best Acrylic Painting at the annual Reminderville Art Show. 

The painting is 36 x 36 and was inspired by the flamingos I saw at the Cleveland Zoo.

The show included sculpture, wood carving, paintings and collage.

Autumn Scene

This painting is 11x14 on hardboard, painted in acrylics. It will be one of the pieces I enter in the first show at the MD Garage next week. The theme of the show is the four seasons in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. My concept here was to keep the design simple and let the colors carry the day.

Redeux

This is a painting of an Ohio bank barn that I did last year and that has been a thorn in my side all winter. I would look at it and be more dis-satisfied every day. I decided that it was the warm umber that needed to be modified:





I grabbed it off the wall this weekend and impulsively took a paint brush to it. Gone is the vast expanse of warm rich values that really needed to be contained to the foreground. I'm much happier with the painting now - and I'm casting a very critical eye on a few other pieces that have not stood the test of time!

For the Guests

I was commissioned to paint our town's iconic clocktower on aceo size canvas. The bride and groom are making gift bags for their out of town guests and they thought these would be the perfect item to represent the grooms hometown.
I think this is a great way to uses ACEOs!
