Day 30 A Painting a Day
"Three Boats"
3x5"
Reflections are so much fun to paint. And light values against dark so...effective. So this scene was my choice for day 30 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. It was a fun project and the month went by very quickly.

Day 29 a Painting a Day
"Night Watch"
3x5"
Breaking out the new watercolor palette and paints. I nearly forgot how much I like this medium!
It may take some practice before I'm saving my whites and keeping my colors from getting muddy.
This is a Whiskey Painting. I used gin instead of water with the paint.

Day 28 A Painting a Day
"Daybreak"
5x7
There is a stand of trees on the east side of my house. In the winter months the sun rise outlines the trees. We had a fabulous sky full of peach and violet colors the other day.
This awful sub zero cold snap brings some beautiful skies.

Day 27 A Painting a Day
"April's Cat"
4x6
Midnight was sitting on my lab when I took a selfie of us. As with most of my selfies it's cockeyed and off center. It also accounts for the odd angle of Midnights head.

Day 26 A Painting a Day
"Calm Evening"
5x7"
$50
This crazy cold weather system has been providing some beautiful sunsets - a little later each day now.
This is my neighbors house as seen from my front yard. Acrylic on canvas board.

Day 25 A Painting a Day
"Hudson Church"
3x3"
$40
This is based on a photo I took on the 43rd day of Fall in my Photo a Day for a Year Series on FaceBook. It's the Presbyterian church on Rt 303. The photo was taken on a gray day so I changed the sky to create a little drama.

Day 23 A Painting a Day
"The Towpath Trail"
11x14"
I painted the under painting Sunday using a photo I had taken a few years ago as reference.
I've been playing with the values, making a more dramatic shift between light and dark all whiled using fewer colors.

Day 22 A Painting a Day
"View from the Towpath"
ACEO
There is a spot along the towpath, south of Rt 303 where the Cuyahoga River runs along the trail. It's a great spot to stop and take in the view. I've often seen herons among the rocks.
This is an aceo in acrylics on board.

Day 21 A Painting a Day
"Remembering Summer"
4x6"
I was in Ocean City, Md this past summer and took a jet boat ride along the shore. This is the amusement park along the boardwalk. I've used this theme of rides and fairs before but not from this viewpoint.

Day 20 A Painting a Day
Fallen Pine
Aceo
This big pine came down in a storm and lies at the edge of the road. It's especially interesting when covered with snow ( may be later this week it will have a dusting). Well placed fallen trees can really improve a composition and add interest to a painting.

Day 19 A Painting a Day
"Tulips"
Aceo
And now for something completely different!
I felt we were overdue for a still life. This little artist card was done mostly with knife.
I've had such a good time this month playing with my palette knives I bought a new set - and they come with a wooden holder so they hang all organized! Lovely.

Day 17 A Painting a Day
"Old Mill Road"
4x4"
I pass along this road every day and this was the first year I've seen hay bales in the pasture of the old horse farm. I especially like the way they look in snow. I think they will be a favorite subject. Price on request.

Day 16 A Painting a Day
"Hanging Around"
2.5 x 3.5"
This is an ACEO - one of my favorite things to paint - of a Delicious apple. It was a fun little painting to do.

Day 15 A Painting a Day
"Road Home"
POR
A long line of beautiful old oak trees line both sides of this section of the road home. There's been a lot of development and land sales in this area and I hope the trees are not in danger.

Day 13 A Painting a Day
"Mail Pouch"
6x8"
There is an old barn in the center of Twinsburg, Ohio that now houses the historical society. The ad for Mail Pouch tobacco is painted on the side. I took the liberty of painting the barn as it was years ago before Starbucks and Mr Chicken build next door.

This was a scene from early winter- when all the leaves had not yet all fallen from the trees but the first snows arrived.i loved the brilliant yellow on the white snow.

Day 10 A Painting a Day
We are a third of the way finished with our challenge of 30 paintings in 30 days. I don't have a theme but I am using the photos I have taken as reference. (These photos are posted on Facebook in my " Photo a Day" for a year album.)
Today's painting is a collage inspired by a photo I took in Starbucks. This is the photo
Day 9 A Painting a Day
" Garden Birdbath"

$30
This little watering hole is right outside my kitchen window. It's a favorite hangout for finches, cardinals and bluejays. Crows are known to stop by too.
9 paintings in 9 days for Leslie Saeta's painting challenge. So far it's been a great exercise!

Day 4 - A Painting a Day
5x7
On this fourth day of the January painting a day challenge I chose to do a portrait of Casey.
Casey is 13 years old and a Bichon, Cocker Spaniel mix and clearly the best dog ever. Here she is relaxing in her bed with her red heart shaped pillow.
Painted in acrylics on ampersand board. $60.00
Friday, January 3, 2014
Day 3 A Painting a Day
For today's painting I used a reference from my summer photos. I painted with a palette knife on a 3x3" gallery wrapped canvas. $30.
On a cold winery day it's nice to remember summer breezes.

A Painting a Day - Day 2
"The Peninsula Station"
acrylic on stretched canvas 2.5 x 3.5"
Based on the Fall Photo of the Day #85 posted on Facebook this seemed like the perfect scene for a snowy day like we are having this Thursday morning January 2, 2014.
